Slow Season Diving

July in Puerto Morelos is one of the hottest times of the year. The average temperatures are in the high 80s to low 90s with very high humidity. So it's a great time to get back in the water and practice my macro photography techniques.

I did two reef dives with Scuba Kraken along with Ursula who is also honing in her macro photography techniques. It was so nice to be able to be in one spot for 15 minutes and not worry about others waiting around. I am happy to report that the reef conditions weren't bad at all! Reefs looked healthy and water temperatures where in the low 80s.

For these dives, I focused on using my snoot. One of the best subjects for using the snoot are blennies! Thankfully, there are lots of them in the Puerto Morelos reefs.

For the shot above, the snoot lighting was a bit off but I liked its effect. It caused the blenny to have a black eye 🤜🏻😵 🤣 😂.

I saw Ursula crouched on one spot and there was a hole that she was looking into. She was photographing this very tiny juvenile High-hat fish. So cool!

This tiny guy kept swimming so fast that getting it in focus was a big challenge 💪!
